General Ecology - Who We Are
General Ecology was founded in 1973 by Richard T. Williams, who continues as President of our company. In the late 1960's, Mr. Williams envisioned the worldwide need for effective, reliable and economical drinking water purification, in the form of equipment that could conveniently be used by individuals at the time and place the water was needed.
Accordingly, he organized an effort to develop, manufacture, and responsibly distribute scientifically advanced water purification equipment. Much of General Ecology's advanced technology evolved from Mr. Williams' work at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, where he worked with submicron and molecular separation and other scientific processes. From this effort came General Ecology, Inc.

General Ecology products are manufactured in the U.S.A from the finest raw materials, these self contained systems are ecologically and environmentally comparable- no added electricity, no chemicals, no waste water, no excess storage tanks no brine, backwash or other waste by-product. Best of all all General Ecology systems work instantly.
Each component of our systems is tested for quality and functionality. To ensure consistency and dependability we inspect and test every "Structured Matrix" cartridge. Every production lot is subject to rigorous bacteriological, chromatographic and physical parameter tests. Only after passing all this is the product released for shipment.

Structured Matrix Technology
Here's how our "Structured Matrix" technology purifies your drinking water and protects you without using chemicals:
Ultra-fine Microstraining Down to 0.1 micron (0.4 micron absolute) - small enough to remove all visible particles...as well as waterborne enteric disease bacteria, Giardia, Cryptosporidia and other specific parasites. Unlike less advanced systems, our superior technology physically removes these contaminants*
Molecular Capture & "Broad Spectrum" Adsorption Mechanisms remove chlorine and organic chemicals including specific pesticides, herbicides, and solvents, along with foul tastes, bad odor and color. Importantly, valuable minerals and electrolytes remain in the water. These minerals and electrolytes are essential to good health and to good tasting water.*
Electrochemical SeparationsBecause small particles are electrically charged, General Ecology's Structured Matrix, with oppositely charged surfaces, removes colloids and other particles even smaller than those removed by microfine filtration.*
All three of these mechanisms work together in mutual support within the monolithic structure of the Structured Matrix cartridge. General Ecology's products work instantly, without the use of chemicals.

We're often asked what makes General Ecology's drinking water purifiers different. Why are people willing to pay more for a Seagull® IV or Nature-Pure® than they would pay for most of the hundreds of different water filters that look somewhat similar?
While there are many good reasons probably the two most compelling are: (1) General Ecology's technology was specifically designed by multi-disciplined scientists and engineers, from a comprehensive overview analysis, to protect against modern societies' environmental and ecological pollutants. Most other products have evolved from older water softening or charcoal filtering products. (2) This "next generation" technology, now referred to as "Structured Matrix" includes a combination of truly advanced purification concepts and purification techniques not available from any other product.
